Capsule of Time and Space

Exploring and unearthing the clues of before, led through a build up of conversation and spacial similarities. Then re-representing the data found in its essence, not labeling it with a name but as a capsule of space and time. Scientifically treating what we see, so not to draw conclusions. Each object on its own does not exude the qualities of the rail. But when view it as a whole we can unearth the possibility that this space once would have been a railway. We form a collection of uncommon objects only common to our knowledge that our journey has lead us to believe that they are of the railway; a grouping of objects which is of itself. We present these objects to you so not to inform you what they are but for you to draw your own conclusion as it is through the collaboration of knowledge that exist a common knowledge.

Forensically excavating 3 by 2 meters by 10 Centimeters

Soil acts as an archive of knowledge, slowly objects seep through the layers of the bridge pausing their journeys in the capsule of soil freezing in time. Brushing the layers of soil away reveals a past, forming  a collection of uncommon objects. Each labelled with where it has fallen within time and space, paused within an x,y,z axis, stored within its unique number.

Flux of time

To experience life paused is a humanising of time, time is a concept, it is never static. It is constantly in a state of flux, constantly moving. Time cannot be experience in a pause, as there is a before and after that moment. Through these video’s you are able to see through our eyes. As your eye is focus within the portal of the zoetrope you see flickering of images, each a capsule of time link to the next moment. The sounds that accompany the image capture the lost conversations, the atmosphere that frames the view.  This study has focused upon the interaction of the rails; from freight trains, investigating the mechanical process of a digger loading the trains, and to steam trains using the rails for tourist means and the transporting of people.
